For financial reasons some real estate agents are choosing to work for companies that do not do not belong to their Board of Realtors, which is the local arm of National Association of Realtors.  Others have rejected membership in NAR on prinicple.  If it were not the rule that to work for a company that is a Board/NAR member, every agent in the company has to be a member, many more agents would opt out.
