Christine O’Donnell did not stand a chance of winning the election because the minute she won the Republican Primary, her own party turned on her.  Why would any Conservative vote for her? Karl Rove, a Republican who is recognized as one of the smartest people in the campaign business, went on news programs saying that she was not a viable candidate?  Several other party faithfuls followed, giving up before the fight even started. They threw her to the wolves when she was the only Conservative in the race, guaranteeing that the Democrat would win the seat. Not that I was a big fan of hers but, who decided that a Democrat was  better than one of their own?

The video clips that showed her quirkiness could have been overcome by a professionally run campaign.  Both parties get men elected that have enough baggage to go on a trip around the world.  Even though they are caught lying, stealing, taking bribes and even killing, they get reelected time and time again.  The professionals who run campaigns make the worst of the worst look like poor victims of inaccurate smear campaigns by the other party.

Why aren’t the women candidates fought for and supported in the same way as the men?

Christine O’Donnell is quirky but, so are many of the old white guys that are or have been in office.  At her worst, it would have been better to get her elected than to give the election, and one more seat, to the Democrats.

2011-2012 will be a massacre when 13 candidates compete for the Republican Presidential Primary nomination.  The Party favorite is typically the next old white guy in line.

People outside of the Washington, DC bubble believe that if current lifelong politicians continue to be reelected, the way our country’s business is done will never change.  If that is the will of the people, the party must get behind the candidate that not only promises change, but the one who will stand firm and not be corrupted by the system.

If Republicans ignore the will of the people, they are just as bad as the Democrats.  Failing to support the people’s choice has begun a division in the party and if they continue down that road, we will see the party continue to rot from within.

The November midterms were a mandate for a different kind of change.  Let’s hope the Republicans don’t screw up the opportunity to be in power for many years.  It is theirs to lose.
